You and Your Hearing Aid: Famous Individuals Who Use Them

Having to wear a hearing aid does not mean that you aren't cool. Some of the world's hippest people use assistive aid devices and they don't care who knows. In fact, some of the most famous people who wore hearing aids have made the biggest contributions to American history and technology.

Thomas Edison was deaf. Because of his condition he had a hard time during the short period of time that he attended school. He also had trouble speaking. He is one of the most accomplished Americans in the history of the United States. Remember, he was the guy who invented the light bulb and the phonograph. Without his inventions, where would we be? We would be stuck in the dark without anything to listen to. As you can see, there isn't any negative impact on intelligence from having to wearing an ear trumpet.

Pete Townsend, an Award winning entertainer is someone who is currently living with hearing loss. Thanks to his active days of listening to music at high volumes through earphones and from performing at rock concerts, he now has to wear a hearing aid just to continue working as a songwriter, producer and guitarist.

Johnnie Ray was an accomplished songwriter and musician. He was not born with any hearing conditions; however he became partially deaf from an accident that occurred during a Boys Scout trip when he was 13. He underwent surgery which was originally performed to improve his hearing but actually resulted in him losing most of the hearing in both ears. He was able to be successful in his career with the help of ear trumpets.

Famous rapper Foxy Brown has a rare condition that is causing her to slowly lose her hearing. Foxy relies on hearing aids to be able to communicate effectively. She also has to rely on them so she can continue to make music and perform.

As you can see, many people who are diagnosed with hearing impairments are able to go on and live very productive lives. Some famous people who were deaf could not rely on the assistance of a hearing aid. They didn't let their condition stop them from achieving their goals, it has been suggested that their condition made them strive harder because they knew they were at a disadvantage.

People who suffer from this condition later on in life, have the task of learning how to adapt to using hearing aids and other resources so that they can live normal lives. Just because you have a condition that makes it harder for you to understand, talk and continue to function in a normal capacity. With the assistance of hearing centers and other organizations, it is possible for anyone to avoid experiencing a disruption in their life.
